Project 1: Why I Write

This is the first assignment for the gateway course. The essay gave me an opportunity to explore my relationship with writing. As detailed in the essay, my affinity for writing is fairly newfound, and it was interesting to investigate what helped it take off so quickly. I would say that the two main catalysts were my mom and books. I really love my mom by the way. Here's an 11 second video of us dancing to prove it:

We're the bomb.

Getting back to my project, there are a couple aspects that I'm very happy with. First, I'm able to tell my story very well. The reader gets a good feel for my progression as a writer. I also see it as a proper representation of myself. The tone is matter of fact, but also humorous, which is a good way to describe my personality.

There are a couple things I would like to improve upon though, primarily the ending. The conclusion is anything but conclusive, but given the nature of the essay, and the fact I'm acknowledging that writing will ultimately lead me to a more firm "conclusion", I think that my indecision generally works. But, I don't think I talked about enough specific ways in which writing will ultimately lead me to fulfillment. Looking back, one specific idea is that writing has always been a cathartic process for me, and an increased self-awareness and clarity of mind will allow me to find a distinct path.

You can read the essay below. I've attached self-reflective comments so you can better understanding my thought process while writing.
